Jared Stout

Jared has served in student government in both the legislative and executive branches.  First, he served in the Student Body Senate where he aggressively fought for the College of Arts and Sciences and for many religious, cultural, and minority organizations.  He also was selected to represent students on the Activity and Service Fee budget committee where he fought for equity in funding for all student organizations regardless of their mission.  Jared now serves as the Chief Student Advocate, a position in which he is fighting for student rights, advising students and student organizations on student conduct cases, working with students on grievances against the university, and sitting on university committees and appeals boards to protect student interests.  Some of Jared’s contributions while in Student Government have been:

  • Writing and passing first bill for the Interfaith Trialogue, an open discussion between Hillel, Muslim Student Association, and Campus Crusade for Christ.
  • Working on the Block Tuition resolution passed in the Student Senate to fight against the government forcing students to pay for classes they aren't taking .
  • Collecting signatures for the petition against block tuition.
  • Working to get online advocacy forms for the Student Government web site to help students directly submit their complaints to the Executive Cabinet.
  • Sitting in on the President's Alcohol Task Force meetings to ensure that students’ rights would not be violated.
  • Advising countless numbers of student organizations and students going through the student conduct process.
  • Working with many organizations and branches of student government to program and organize the Hurricane Katrina Relief Concert.
  • Working with the Campus Activities Board Fine Arts Committee on Project: Darfur, fighting for funding for the project and helping organize organizations around the project.
  • Fought for the Higher Education Act Amendment Resolution in the student senate, advocating for students rights guaranteed by the 4th and 5th amendment.
Jared has amazing ideas and work ethic and would like to continue fighting for student rights and fighting for equity in funding for student organizations.
